Day 5: Legoland

We woke up bright and early in Anaheim, ate breakfast, packed up the car, said good-bye to Jarom and drove the hour to Carlsbad. Luckily Legoland didn't open until 10 am so we were able to get there a bit before it opened. We lucked out on tickets, using some coupons from our Lego magazines and also a buy one, get one free ticket we found on eBay for $4.
Legoland was such a nice break after the hectiness of Disneyland. It is a smaller park with fewer rides, but still lots to do for Lego fans. The boys (big and small) had a blast. We went on a couple of rides, but spent most of our time wandering, looking and playing.
Greg and Gavin hit the robotic arm and really liked it. I can't imagine it being fun, but it's all in how you look at it (even upside down!). Kate liked riding the horses (even though we fudged and pretended she was four) and Enoch did not like riding the dragon because of the huge hill at the beginning.



Kate's favorite ride of the entire trip was the cars. The kids actually drive these cars by pushing the gas and steering them around the raceway (there are no rails). She was skeptical at first, but then really got into it. I love the look of concentration on her face. When people ask her what she did on the trip, she tells them she drove the cars.


We went on most of the rides we wanted to except for those that had an hour long line. We spent a lot of time playing in the Lego pavilions (little stations set up with tons of Legos and, thankfully, hand sanitizer). The kids could have spent all day in these things. Gavin did participate in the Lego Mindstorm challenge and had a lot of fun designing a robot.



We were amazed at the Lego towns and the Star Wars display. It is incredible what they can do with Legos.






We also had a lot of fun just being together. It was so nice to not be rushing from ride to ride and be able to laugh and explore. Of course, the kids loved the Duplo playground.





Enoch discovered this interactive water area and had a complete blast. He loved the band display. They had squares on the sidewalk that connected to water fountains and Lego instruments. Each time you stepped on a square a fountain would go off and the instrument would make the appropriate sound. Enoch was fascinated. He figured out how it worked after a few minutes. He recruited the whole family to create a band. Lots of fun.

We also had a great time in the Lego store. Greg wasn't a shopper at Disneyland, but had a fantastic time at the Lego store. We came away with a lot of fun things. The boys all had a great time and Kate got her pink Lego backpack, so she was happy.
We left Legoland, very tired, but so happy.
