Public vs. Private

A few weeks ago for FHE we talked about internet safety. We read an article in the Friend and then discussed ways to be safe while online: don't give out your name or personal information, don't send pictures, etc. I knew this before, but this lesson really hit it home: I'm doing all these things on our blog.
So, the last few weeks I've been debating going private with our blog. I really don't want to, but I feel like I need to for safety reasons. I have reconnected with friends and keep up better with current friends through our blog, but am I compromising my children's safety? What do you think?

I am on the fence too...how do you have your blog settings? I have mine so that my blog doesn't appear in any search engine, and isn't in any blog listings. Basically you have to know the address to get there. My profile is set to private, so if I comment on people's blogs, other people can't just click my name and get to my blog.

I'm glad I was able to find you. I have stayed public for the reasons you stated: reconnecting and making new friends. I have just tried to be careful--I don't use our last name, and I avoid getting too specific.

I think just be careful, and I agree with Ariana about watching what kinds of settings you have. I think there's a middle ground that will allow people to find you without having everything about your family open to the world. It's too bad we have to take such steps, but I guess that's how it is in today's world.

What a shame that we must worry about this so much. Let the Spirit be your guide. The missionaries in the mission found our blog and read about us before we got here. It was nice that they wanted to know us so well, but it did surprise us. But I have definitely loved reconnecting with people through Facebook. Just in the last year so many friends from high school have found me. Satan will take anything good and find a way to make it bad.
