Space Derby

Ah!  The Space Derby!  What every Cub Scout looks forward to during their Cub years.  Or not just their Cub years.  Or not just Cub Scouts.  Yep, Gavin and Kate made a rocket too.

Everyone had a fun time making their rockets.  They all made their own (except Kate, Greg made hers and she decorated it).  They all looked great!
Gavin had his Eagle Board of Review that night, so all my Scouts were in their uniforms.  I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures.  They are so handsome!
At the church, we set up and got things ready for everyone to come.  It was a super night!  We started off with Enoch getting his Bobcat award.  So proud of him!
As a fun activity in addition to our derby, we had the kids make tin foil hats to visit the moon later that night.  Everyone had so much fun with this activity.  Enoch and Kate made theirs earlier in the day and then made another one that night.
And now the real fun!  Everyone was able to race their rockets as many times as they wanted. Enoch's and Kate's rockets did great.  They had so much fun racing.  They won some races and lost some, but had so much fun.
After the racing was over, all the kids were able to visit the moon!  We turned the lights off in a classroom and filled it full of moon rocks (balloons with glow sticks in them).  As the kids walked on the moon, they could pick a moon rock to take home with them.  They loved it!
It was a good night.  It is good to win and it is good to lose.  It is good to be with friends.  It is good to be proud of your creation.  It is good to have so much fun!
