Easter Candy Snatching Team

I made the mistake of buying Easter candy early.  I made another mistake of leaving the Easter candy on the floor in our closet (stupidly thinking that I was 'hiding' it).
Of course, it was opened (by me or Greg, I don't remember who).  One day, I realized that almost all of the Kit Kats were gone.  Which one of our little snatchers was eating all the Kit Kats?  I soon found out.
I was laying in bed one evening reading.  I saw Coal, very quietly push open the door to our room and head right for the closet.  I could see her in there riffling through the bag of assorted chocolates with her nose until she found a Kit Kat.  She then picked it up and looked around.  When she saw me staring at her, she slowly backed out of the room (like she could hide it from me).
The next morning after Greg scooped poop, he came inside and said, "Do you know they are about a dozen Kit Kat wrappers in the back yard?"  Hmm...I wonder who put them there.  Good thing we didn't kill her off with chocolate overload.

Now, my little man, Guard, doesn't like Kit Kats.  He likes Rolos.  Unfortunately for him, he doesn't quite have the fine motor skills to unwrap a Rolo.  Don't feel too bad for him - he has a partner in crime, the Kit Kat snatcher.
I was on my corded phone doing some Cub Scout business take took a little longer than I thought it would.  When I was finished, I realized I hadn't seen the baby or the dog for a while.  Guess where I found them?  Yes, on the floor of my closet surrounded by candy.
They had quite a system down.  By this time, the Kit Kats were all gone, so Coal wasn't worried about finding her favorite.  She was happy to help Guard with his favorites.  Guard would seach through the candy until he found a Rolo.  He would then put it in his palm and hold it out for Coal.  Coal would lick it off his hand and chomp on it for a bit (until the wrapper was almost off).  Guard would finally pry open Coal mouth and reach in and grab the Rolo.  And then he would eat it.  Guard would eat the Rolo right out of Coal's mouth.  Oh My Yuck!  I've let a lot of my germs issue go since getting Coal, but this was bringing them all back in a rush.  (By the way, I later told my pediatrician this story and he laughed so hard I thought he would going to fall off his spinny stool.  He said not to let them make a habit of it, but once would be fine.)
I couldn't believe what I was seeing.  Seriously - were they working together that well, was Guard really eating candy from the dog's mouth and how on earth can the baby chew a Rolo with only three teeth that don't match up?  Questions that I probably don't need to know the answers to now or ever.
Thankfully, the candy is gone.  I have learned a valuable lesson.  Don't store it on the floor of your closet and think it is safe (or that it will last until Easter).

Oh, those two!

I laughed so hard at this story that if I had been sitting on a spinny stool I for sure would have fallen off! I can't tell you how many times I have told this story to friends and family. That is one smart baby and one patient dog!
