Pioneer Pack Meeting

After a last minute cancellation of a guest speaker, I scrambled to come up with some ideas for our June Pack Meeting.  I finally settled on following the theme, Go West!, and we played pioneer games.  We had a very light turn out, but the Cubs that did come had a great time!
We had stick pulling.  Enoch and his friends really liked this one.  They discovered that if they got two Cubs, they could take on one of their leaders or Dad.  Kate almost beat Gavin (those long arms are almost like cheating!) and you know Guard and sticks; he had to have one!

We also played a game called Step, Hop, Jump.  Who would have thought that such a simple game would be so fun.  They boys loved it and lined up to play it time and time again.  Maybe it was the competition, but everyone had fun with it.  

You start behind a designated line and take the biggest step you can.  Then you put both feet down and hop as far as you can.  Then you really swing your arms and get into it and jump.  

We marked each boy's final place with masking tape.  They would always yell, "I can do better!"  And we would go through the line again.  Gavin won, but he's not a Cub!

We ended the games with a rousing game of tag.  We played rope tag where you join in on the end of the rope when you are tagged.  It as a lot of fun and the boys didn't seem to care when they were cornered and tagged.

We wrapped up the night with rolls and homemade butter.  I didn't get any pictures, but we make butter by shaking it in a mason jar.  It was really good and the boys were amazed that they could make butter.

It was a really fun night.  After Pack Meetings like this I sometimes wonder why we plan such elaborate ones when the boys just want to play together and have fun!
