For the past three years Gavin has participated in Knowledge Bowl. Teams of five kids compete against each other in different areas of academia. Gavin's first year was history, followed by science (his favorite), and this year was Arts and Humanities. It was a brutal year for Gavin. He does not like this subject and there was an immense amount of information. Gavin didn't mind the literature section, but couldn't stand the theater part. He attended study sessions after school, three days a week and also studied at home.
The competition was today. Gavin's team did okay, just okay. They drew a very difficult bracket competing against schools who, in the past have done very well. Gavin's team had six members, so Gavin sat one round out. He kept score that round and had more fun doing that than participating in the competition. Like I said, it was a rough year for him. Next year is geography. Hopefully, things will be better then.

Every good thing we learn makes us more and more like our Heavenly Father who knows everything. I'm proud of you for working so hard at something that wasn't your favorite. You really can do hard things! That shows great maturity. I love you! Love, Grandma Randall
I remember the knowledge bowl well, I did the Geography one and did quite well, and it is my major after all so maybe next year I can be Gavin's personal tutor and lead him to victory!
Looks like fun, I do have a hard time imagining Gavin doing Theatre, but good job!
Gavin was a good sport and after attending this knowledgebowl, to support my awesome nephew I have to say "I am not smarter than a 5th grader". I didn't know half the answers!! How did I ever graduate from college and even get a masters?
