Christmas Band Concert

Tonight was Gavin's band concert.  He has been working so hard for this night.  Gavin is in the eighth grade Concert band, where he plays the alto saxophone.  He is also in the Jazz Band, where he plays the baritone saxophone.  He prefers playing the alto sax, but loves being in the Jazz Band.
Jazz Band meets every other day at 7:30 am.  That means all of us get to load in the car and take Gavin to school in the cold.  Bleh.  Then we rush home and get Enoch off to school.  And then we get to pick Gavin up after school because he can't lug two saxophones on the bus.  His bari sax case is almost as big as Enoch, so it would be really hard to get on the bus.  But, it is worth it because he loves it so much.  Gavin is pretty lucky to be in Jazz band as a eighth grader (it is designed for ninth graders), so he will get to do Jazz Band for two years.  He's hoping next year to play the alto sax.
The Jazz Band performed two songs:  Santa Baby and I'll Be Home for Christmas.  They sounded great.  I wish I had a video of Kate.  She could not keep still during the Jazz Band performance.  She was dancing and bouncing in her seat.  She loves Jazz.  Whenever she is in our room she asks to watch the Roku Christmas channel and turns it to the Jazz Yule Log station (where there is just a picture of the fire crackling, but Jazz music in the background).  She loves it!
Gavin did wonderful.  I wish I had better pictures, but the lighting was awful for pictures and the band was in the pit, so I didn't have a good shot.  Concert Band played a Selection from the Polar Express and Ancient Carole. They sounded terrific as well.

Good job, Gavin!

Dec 9 - We spend the day at U of U Medical Center having Gavin's ears done. We missed our Christmas movie and pizza. We did get Wendy's for dinner and dose Gavin up on Advil. He can now swallow pills! A truly momentous day at our house. I guess if you hurt enough, you can get the pill down.

Dec 10 - We attended our ward Christmas party. It was fun and we all had a good time.

Wow, this is great post! So many accomplishments in one post! We are so proud of you, Gavin! Oh, how I love jazz! I am so excited that it is a love that Gavin, Kate and I can share! We'll go to a Synthesis concert together when I get home. Gavin, learning to swallow pills means you really are grown up. It is a rite of passage! I know how hard it was for you. I am proud of you!
