I hesitate to share this with you, but I thought Enoch's picture was too adorable to pass up. I hesitate because it makes me sound like an overbearing mother who never can let her kids have fun (which I probably am).
Greg and I (mostly I) have decided to take an education vacation every Fall Break. We gave our kids three choices of where they would like to visit and then they must learn about that place and do four projects each to earn their vacation. I'm pretty lenient about the structured project part of it. I mostly want to see them learning.
This kids choices this year were: a train trip to some hot springs in Colorado, hot-air balloon festival in New Mexico and Carlsbad Caves in New Mexico. They choose the train trip to Colorado.
Enoch is beyond excited to ride on the train. He jumped right in and did the first report on trains. He read some books, talked to Dad about how steam engines work and drew a picture and labeled the parts of a train.
I'm impressed with how much he learned. He is "super-excited" about visiting Golden Spike (another project for the kids) and discovering more about trains. He keeps asking what kind of train we will be riding on and if we can ride in the same car that the Queen on England did. Not very likely! (unless the Queen is now riding Amtrak in the States).
