I've decided it takes a fair amount of work to be frugal. I have a greater appreciation for the women who came before me - those who scrimped out of necessity. My scrimping is somewhat necessary, but I still greatly admired those women who did this their entire lives without a break. They were amazing. I'm not doing near as much as they did, but I'm trying.
I've baked bread on and off since Greg and I were married. Lately, I've been doing four loaves a week. My family loves it! We have breakfast for dinner at least one night a week and have been eating more vegetarian lately. Let me know your favorite bean and lentil recipes; we are using our food storage!
Rather than buying new shorts for Enoch, I cut off his holey jeans and made shorts. They look pretty good and are perfect for playing in the backyard. We broke out Gavin's hand-me-downs and Enoch found some new favorite shirts. Of course, what we saved on clothes, we are spending on Band-Aids!
Kate has decided to hit her summer growth spurt. I've been sewing some cute sundresses for her. I'm having a lot of fun. Since I'm just starting, I didn't want to spent a lot of fabric. I saw this fabric for sale at Wal-mart and loved it. I have always been a sucker for eyelet and I love this color on Kate. I figured I spent a whole 75 cents on this simple, wrap dress. I love it on her. I can't wait to make her some more clothes. At her size, I can make some fun things pretty inexpensively. I'll keep you posted on her new outfits.
I know I'm biased, but I think my daughter is beautiful; she reminds me of a fairy!
Let me know your favorite money-saving tip; I'm open to all ideas.

What a "Suzy homemaker" you are! I'm so proud of you! I'm predicting that the darling little fairy in your house will also be a Suzy homemaker! Great job, Mom!
You are amazing tresa!! I wish I could be more like you and try to save money. My best thing for saving money lately has been coupons. I look at some blogs and websites on-line and have found some great ideas to use with coupons. It's amazing what people save.
The toe looks ouchy! Love the picture with Kate's toes taped together...too cute! Here's my favorite lentil (soup) recipe:
2 T olive oil
1 onion, diced
3 carrots, sliced into coins
3 ribs celery, sliced on bias
3/4 tsp marjoram
3/4 tsp thyme
1 28-oz. can tomatoes, with their juice
8 cups broth (beef, chicken, vegetable)
1 1/2 c dried lentils, rinsed and picked over
1/2 t salt (TASTE first…then add salt)
1/4 - 1/3 t ground black pepper
1/3 c fresh flat-leaf parsley, or dried, chopped
Heat oil in a large soup pot. Sauté onions, carrots, celery, marjoram, and thyme for about 5 minutes.
Add tomatoes, broth, and lentils. Bring to a boil, stir, and reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Add salt, pepper, and parsley. Simmer for a few minutes. Add a little water or broth if it seems too thick for you. Serve with crusty bread or garlic toast.
You have always been such a good example of being frugal, I am always amazed at the things you make. Let me know if there is a day you don't feel like baking bread, I know a great place to get it for free! I love the dress too!
That wrap dress looks very cute! Yours looks better than the one on the original blog. I haven't tried it yet, but I did create my own wrap dress "pattern" a couple months ago. I think it's pretty cute, I'll have to show you. That other pattern I told you about should be coming in the mail any day. I splurged and spent FULL price on some fabric for Ava. I just couldn't pass it up. but ouch.
You are so talented! That bread looks delicious and Kate's dress is darling.
I'll bring over some of my favorite bean recipes for you after the holiday weekend!
