Brithday Help - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE

Enoch and Kate's birthdays are fast approaching and I'm panicking about presents. I really don't feel recovered from Christmas shopping and I'm having to think about two birthdays. I need some ideas - let me know what your kids like and what is fun out there. Please keep in mind that I abhor noisy toys (I really don't like flashing lights either).

Enoch is turning 4 and has a ginormous imagination. He loves building toys like Legos and 'thinking toys' where you must think and figure it out. He loves to play with his hands and has great fine motor skills. He also loves pretend play toys when he makes up stories. I have Lincoln Logs for him - good idea or not?

Kate is turning one and I'm completely lost on her. I'm getting her mostly spring and summer clothes, but I would like to get her at least one toy. She loves to put items into a container and then dump them. She also likes sitting in an under-the-bed Rubbermaid box and rock back and forth while putting items in there and them emptying it again. I still haven't figured out girl toys and could really use some ideas for her.

Thank you so much for you help. I'm usually not so needy, but I'm really desperate. Please send ideas.

Well, because I have kids almost the exact same age, you'd think I'd have loads of good ideas....um....thinking....huh.
Ava, too, like to put things in and dump them out, but anything will do for that fun. We do have a pink "piggy bank" (fisher price I think) that has big plastic coins and a door in the side of the pig. It can make noise, but I keep it on off. Jimmy got a Handy Manny toy for Christmas that is "broken" and he has to take the back off and move some parts around. The screws don't come all the way out, so they can't be lost. He played with this for DAYS non stop.
but that's just us. :) good luck

One of the best presents I ever got for Christmas was a box filled with all sorts of crafting supplies, crayons, paints, glitter, paper, scissors, that kind of stuff. My dad made the box, and I still have it today. Maybe something like that for Enoch? Maybe more boyish, though, if you can think what that would be. I LOVED Lincoln logs when I was little. Brent liked Construx when he was about that age. Do they still make those? As for Kate, do they still make Popples? Denise loved those when she was around 2. I'm too old. I don't know the toys these days. There's got to be something that you take things in and out of. Toy kitchen of some kind? Maybe that's too old.
I'm no help am I? Sorry!

for enoch, a bike, if he doesn't already have one.
for kate, a doll stroller or shopping cart. as soon as she can walk she'll love to push it around.

Go to the Red Balloon in American Fork. They have a ton of things that would fit the bill for Enoch and Kate.
