We don't go all out for Chinese's New Year, but we enjoy learning about new cultures and their special days. Back when Gavin was taking Chinese in high school, we added this holiday to our rotation. We usually have orange chicken and rice for dinner and then we open our fortune cookies of love.
After dinner, we get to open our cookies and read our 'fortunes'. Inside the felt fortune cookies are slips of paper listing things that we love about that person. We all contribute to everyone's cookie container with 2-3 cookies. I ask the kids to be specific about what they love or admire about their parents and siblings. It's a great writing project, but also a wonderful way to express love and gratitude. Everyone loves reading what is in their cookies and guessing who wrote each message. It brings such a special spirit into our home!
