Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby must be one the most important rites of passage in a young boy's life. It is fun, competitive, imaginative and something that all boys look forward to as a Cub Scout. Our packs's derby was tonight and it was crazy. With so many boys participating and all their families cheering them on, it was a packed house. We set up the track in the gym and roped it off for safety purposes. The boys were able to race their cars quite a bit and we figured out a complex racing system so that each boy competed against every other boy in their den. The boys loved it because their turn to race came up often. The cars looked great and I know the boys and their dads really put some work into each one. Greg loved helping Gavin, but Gavin was completely in charge with Greg providing support and asking the right question to get Gavin thinking in the right direction.

They must have done something right because Gavin took first place in his den (the Bears) and he took second place out of the entire pack by just 1/2 of second! He was so happy and a bit disappointed at the same time. I am so proud of him!
