Getting a Tree

Every morning in December our family participates in two advent calendars. The first is our Nativity Scripture calendar which we read part of the Nativity story in Luke and add an element of the story to our calendar. The second calendar involves uncovering a magnet which reveals a Christmas activity. The boys love this and take turns as to who gets to put the flannel pieces to the Nativity and who gets to look under the magnet.
On December 1, our activity was to pick out our family tree. Since our Christmas tree farm is now a subdivision, we headed to the new Smith's in North Lehi. Just a plug for you who don't have trees yet - Go to Smith's! They had a great selection at good prices and were very helpful. We picked out a awesome tree and brought it home to began the task of cutting the trunk, digging out the tree stand and getting the tree to stand up just right. The boys helped carry in the tree and I vacuumed the carpet about 5 times. Enoch loves crawling under the tree to water it and Kate wasn't too sure what was happening, but she was all for it.

Every year I try to talk Greg into a fake tree, but once we get the real tree home and I can smell it and see how much fun the kids have, I realize it is worth the work!

I love how Kate always looks scared or surprised about what is going to happen next, I love it!! I also love the real Christmas trees, however Dave already had a fake one so we went with that this year. But the train makes up for the fact that the tree isn't real.

Looks like fun, the tree is always so much effort, but so worth it! Kate thoroughly looks like she is enjoying it!

I didn't know people still did real trees! How great for your kids to have that experience! We always had a real tree growing up and the smell and experience of getting it is wonderful. I would stick with that if I were you - fake is easy but it's just not the same.
