When we picked out the name Kate, I was very specific that she be called Kate, not Katie. I had no idea that just in our little family we could come up with so many nicknames for her. Here are my favorites.
Greg - little one, cricket (when she gets excited she rubs her legs together)
Tresa - I'm boring and just call her Kate (imagine that!?) or pretty girl
Gavin - remember in 4th grade while studying Utah history you had to invent an 'Indian name' for yourself which describes who you are or what you like? Gavin's Indian name for Kate is burpy cricket. So feminine I know!
Enoch - KATERS!!! This is my favorite because he can't just say it, he has to yell it in her face. Enoch never, ever refers to her as Kate whether he is talking to her or about her to someone else, it is always Katers.
PS - Kate's first tooth broke through on Monday Oct 13. She was quite upset about the entire thing and we just can't wait until #2 comes in and we get to do that all over!

dan doesn't like freddy. so we call him fredders, fred fred, or fred head (so creative).
I love the nickname "cricket", that's so cute. I also love calling her Katers, and of course i love pretty girl because she's so darn cute!!
What a great post. It's always fun to learn how nicknames came about. I might have to do a similar post on my blog now that I think about. I hear you about wanting to stick with Kate. I was pretty stuck on Allison and she has never been Ally, until this past year when all of her Jr. High teachers have just decided that is her name. Very buggy!
You must be related to Grandma Randall. She swore that Valerie would end up being a Val. She has, except that her mother still calls her Val. Dad says that Jarom was supposed to be J.P., but everybody likes Percy, including Jarom. Stay strong and keep calling her Kate, but don't be surprised what happens in high school. She'll be old enough to have a say by then :-) Love, Mom and Dad
