You thought you got fat when you were pregnant! Here I am 38 weeks pregnant and dealing with an abscessed tooth. Wonderful; because I wasn't miserable enough already. I originally thought the pain was caused by my TMJ (which flaired up during this pregnancy), so I obviously let it go longer than I should have. I started swelling a bit on Saturday morning and by then I was sure that is wasn't my TMJ. Of course, this happened on a weekend and I thought I could wait it out until Monday. No go. Greg had to corner Dr. Lambert at church because I looked like this by Sunday morning. Dr. Lambert gave me a prescription for antibiotics and Lortab. I was very hestitant to take any medicine, but both Dr. Lambert and Saunders convinced me that the infection was worse for the baby than the medicine. The anitbiotic helped a bit, but the infection was so severe, I eventually had to be on a stronger one. The Lortab was a life-saver. I only took what I needed, but by then the pain had left me shaking.
I went to see Dr. Lambert on Monday morning. Everyone in the office couldn't believe how bad I looked. Greg and I thought I looked pretty good at that point because the anitbotics had helped with the swelling. Dr. Lambert sent me to an endodentist (root canal specialist). I couldn't get in for a few days, but Dr. Kjar gave me a stronger antibiotic because the swelling was still too severe for me to even get numb. (You think that normal numbing shots are bad, try it being that infected and sore. Holy Moly it hurt!). I came back in a few days and they were able to do half of the root canal but the other half was still full of fluid. By that time, I was feeling much better.
Maybe it was the stress, maybe it was just time, but the night of my root canal, my water broke and Kate was born. I had to eat a special diet in the hopsital because I couldn't chew very well (I guess I was in the right place for a soft food diet!). I went back a few weeks after Kate was born to finish up my root canal. I'm so glad it is over.
